5-Day Filmmaking Workshop

The Light & Shadow Filmmaking Workshop is for filmmakers looking to tell quality stories without a big budget or crew. It is five days of hands-on experience that will teach you simple, fast and effective techniques.

We are looking to demystify the filmmaking process. Too many people leave workshops with nothing but theory. We believe you learn more in the field than you do in the classroom. Our workshop puts the equipment in your hands.

​

Our students go through all the major stages of professional filmmaking. You will learn scriptwriting, directing, cinematography, lighting and editing, by completing a film in five days. You will be shooting in real-world situations, creatively learning how to make quality and cost-effective films.

DAY 1

 

  • 9:30 am - 11:00 am: Course Overview and Script Development  
    How to develop story ideas into a script, creating great characters, structure, and the art of pitching

  • 11:00 am - 3:00 pm: Lighting & Camera Workshop I

  • 3:00 pm - 4:00 pm: Pre-Production & Script Breakdown
    Designing shots, casting talent, and scheduling shoots in accord with locations and actors

DAY 2
 

  • 9:30 am - 11:00 am: Directing I
    Directing camera and actors, creating a storyboard, and visualizing the script

  • 11:00 am - 3:00 pm: Lighting & Camera Workshop II

  • 3:00 pm - 4:00 pm: Rehearsal & Visualizing the Scene
    Staging scenes, blocking actors, and choosing camera positions

 


DAY 3

 

  • 9:30 am - 11:30 am: Directing II
    Directing techniques, managing crew, creating your own visual style

  • 11:30 am - 12:30 pm: Lunch Break 

  • 12:30 pm - 4:00 pm: Shooting I
    Final blocking, setting up lights/camera/    sound, and shooting all master shots

DAY 4

 

  • 9:30 am - 12:00 pm: Shooting II
    Shooting coverage and reverse shots, adjust lighting for close-ups

  • 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm: Lunch Break 

  • 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm: Shooting II cont.

      Shooting inserts, and close-ups


DAY 5

  • 9:30 am - 12:00 pm: Editing I
    Digitizing and logging footage, learning editing techniques, Final Cut Pro, and start editing film

  • 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm: Lunch Break 

  • 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm: Editing II and Review
    Editing final cut, screening of film, wrap up with review, and filmmaking tips and tricks
